Halftime festivities of the football game between Tensas Academy and Northeast Baptist at Farrel Keahey Stadium on August 22 saw the field designated as an LSU AgCenter Field of Excellence football field and the Louisiana Turfgrass Association’s 2014 High School Football Field of the Year under the direction of Dennis Burns, Tensas Parish County Agent and Dr. Donnie Miller of the LSU AgCenter. The LSU AgCenter’s Field of Excellence Program assists Louisiana high schools in adopting practices that make football fields safety and increase their quality and playability. Tensas Academy is one of only five fields in the state to achieve the Field of Excellence honor this year and was voted as the Football Field of the Year by the Louisiana Turfgrass Association. On hand to make the presentation, which included a $500.00 award, to Mr. Dale Vinson, President of the Tensas Athletic Association, were Mr. Aaron Wade, President of the Louisiana Turfgrass Association, and Dr. Donnie Miller of the LSU AgCenter. Contact your local parish LSU AgCenter Cooperative Extension office for more information regarding the program.
